Literary Dek

 

 

 

Here is Dek reading Tom Tom, a female drum magazine (yes, its mine not his). He does look so engrossed even though I'm pretty sure he starts tearing out pages after I took these photos.

He has started showing a more avid interest in books, which I use as a distraction at times when he wants attention through nursing and I'm using some techniques to make sure he's not just nursing b/c he is bored. And yes, I've turned into one of those people that is nursing a walking toddler who "asks" for it. Its cute though he asks for "sua" (milk in Viet), or bu (nurse in Viet).

He's starting to talk more, a jumble of Viet, English and Tagalog. More on that in a post coming soon.

Installation Art

 

 

Here is Derek "decorating" (or I guess if you were a starving artist you'd just call yourself working) a pot. The hand print didn't come out quite the way we want to and he ended up a bit smurfy after the exercise, but  otherwise the gift for great grandma turned out pretty good.

Visitng Lolo

 

 

 

Here we are in Annapolis for our (at least) yearly pilgrimage to visit Dek's grandfather, Lolo Derek Sr. Good times.

Shoveling it Down

 

 

 

In his second year of life, Dek has morphed into quite the ravenous toddler. Though he remains steadily at the 25th percentile. He is literally eating with a (play) shovel here. We gave him some cereal and he found this in his toy box and started chowing down.

Happy 96th Birthday to Great Grandma!

 

The whole family got together to celebrate great grandma's (96th!) birthday. We're so lucky to have her. She's one of Derek's favorites. He often requests to talk to her by phone (Cu? Cu? he'll say as he points to the phone) and runs to hug her even though she can barely pick him up (though she tries). She's such a wonderful woman and it was nice to do celebration to honor her.

Watermelon Chair

 

Dek found a new use for the watermelon. Sad the summer is over. Pics of Derek's first day at his Toddler Class to come soon
