Pulling Up, very slowly...

Derek stood up really fast, so I tried to record it, but then he was already standing, so by the time I put him back down (with camera still rolling). He decided to take his sweet time. I think his foot got stuck and he wasn't sure what to do. Forward to 1.42 if you don't have time to watch it all (I know we're all in a hurry these days). That's me in the back cheering him on in Viet - in case you're like, who is that foreigner babbling in the back.

P.S. I used to think people who posted videos of their kids doing basic things was so silly - till its your kid, then its totally amaaaaazing. Tini = hypocrite.

9 months old!

Derek wouldn't sit still without chewing on this spoon, so you can barely see the shirt his Bac Uyen got him that says "I'm on Vacation 24/7." Nice life.

Our boy is  3/4 of the way through babyhood! Can you believe this little shrimp of a guy is 9 months old.  I'm so grateful for this amazing little man. You can be having the worse day and he'll just smile and you won't care about anything in the world! Lately he's been really enjoying drinking out of a cup (all by himself!) and loves to make the "MmmMmm!" sound to let you know he's enjoying it. He's also pulling up and walking around while holding on to your hands.

Dek and I took a nice long weekend together. I've been working so much I barely get to see my little guy. He's started crawling and grew another tooth when I went away for a band retreat two weekends ago. Some pictures of the adventures to come.

Here are his 9 month stats. He has dropped much (no longer the chunky monkey of yestermonth) - but the doctor isn't too worried since he's such an active boy.

Weight: 19 lbs. 5.5 oz (25th percentile)
Height: 27 3/4 inches (50th percentile)
Head circumference: 18 1/4 inches (75th percentile)

Hey I'm too big for this.

We put Dek in his newborn rocker to see what he would do. Time flies. At 9 months he seems like a giant.

Dek and Grandpa (Ong)

Seems Dek and Grandpa will be learning to walk together. Its funny. I compared the baby walker to the one my dad is using, basically the same besides the height and one is bright orange with some buttons that make noise.

Everything is for Eating

Dek loves to chew on everything. Recently, I found most of the books he had were missing corners and edges. Even the playmat that is where he rolls around is well chewed at the edges.

He just got his 4th tooth (@ 9 months). So that's two at the bottom and the two top. Our little guy is growing so fast. Also, he finally started some crawling (belly only). He would only crawl after a bottle (very motivated). After a few rounds of moving the bottle too much he finally yaked up the milk and we realized it would be necessary to incentivize him with something else.

He's still on all breastmilk and some veggies. Not really into trying more foods, just into spitting things out he finds undesirable. We made him mashed potatoes - rejected. So sad.

Mommy and me!

Clearly, I'm Derek's favorite. I kid. He knows I'm the food, but is making this face probably b/c of something Mike did. Even when I'm feeling dumpy or overwhelmed, one smile from this little guy and everything is perfect again.

Making a Call

Dek boy is quite chatty and really enjoy's playing with his old school phone. Lately, he hasn't been saying words, but definitely grunting with different expressions. Today when we went up the elevator, its like he knew it was moving and he was trying to ask me - where we going? Or sometimes he'll let out an expressive yelp just to let you know he's excited.

Dek eats... everything

NOM NOM NOM

When Derek started eating around 7 months, he devoured most all the baby puree without opinion. Green beans, yes. Sweet potatoes, definitely. Recently, he's discovered how to spit things back out that displease him. In the beginning he preferred veggies over fruits, now its reversed. He's got a cows milk sensitivity, so I haven't given him anything dairy and fear from giving him anything but pureed stuff. Can't he just eat that forever? Makes shopping easier.

Pooping is a sign of Love

Here is Dek on Father's Day (7 months) showing dad how much he loves him by...what else...Pooping on him. It was a cloth diaper too. Messy clean up. Mike literally looked down felt something warm on his chest and here we are.
